Intern and Contract Work

Our approach emphasizes teamwork, prioritizing our clients and treating others the way we wish to be treated. Everything else will naturally fall into place.

Interns (without a Master's Degree)

Become immersed in the environment of private practice, perform entry-level tasks related to the field of study, fulfill tasks assigned by a supervisor, promote services through marketing, scheduling clients and groups, conduct intake interviews and psychological assessments, verify insurance coverage, and observe and assist master level therapists in leading a group through job shadowing in exchange for the supervisor signing off on paperwork for intern requirements being met. You will learn coping and behavioral aide skills, do one-on-one, family, and/or group skill building while being supervised by a licensed professional. An intern must work toward completing all school coursework to graduate.

According to the law, LAPCs are not permitted to recruit clients for their own benefit or gain. They are prohibited from seeing insurance clients and cannot operate their own independent practice. Sessions must be billed to the agency overseeing them.

Master's Level seeking LAPC

Become immersed in the environment of private practice, fulfill tasks assigned by a supervisor, promote services through marketing, scheduling clients and groups, conduct intake interviews and psychological assessments, verify insurance coverage, see self-pay clients, transport clients, teach coping skills, teach parent education, while also doing lower level individual, family, and group counseling without direct supervision in exchange for the supervisor signing off on paperwork for intern requirements being met. A master's level therapist must attend weekly supervision meetings geared at getting their LAPC.

According to the law, master level therapists are not permitted to recruit clients for their own benefit or gain. They are prohibited from seeing insurance clients and cannot operate their own independent practice. Sessions must be billed to the agency overseeing them.

LAPCs pursuing LPC

LAPCs participate in self-pay private practice as well as completing DFCS assignments for caseworkers. They will be working independently with clients, as long as they attend weekly supervisory meetings with their supervisor to discuss the needs, goals, and progress of their clients. LAPCs are authorized to work with self-pay clients under a licensed therapist and must be targeting their goals to become an LPC.

According to the law, LAPCs are not permitted to recruit clients for their own benefit or gain. They are prohibited from seeing insurance clients and cannot operate their own independent practice. Sessions must be billed to the agency overseeing them.

LPC

LPCs are fully licensed. They can have their own private practice and take payments directly from clients and/or insurance companies.

They can independently bill for themselves or ask CSU for help in billing / administrative work while they focus on seeing their clients full-time. They can also work for CSU and have their own private practice. They can do both.

Donna has been a Licensed Professional Counselor for 12 years. She serves as a CPCS supervisor, at the highest level, for substance abuse counselors.

This is crucial: You absolutely need to have a CPCS supervisor for supervision, or you will find yourself starting over with one before you can achieve your license.

Donna will guide you in learning how to write progress notes. This is often something that is not covered in school, but is essential in the counseling field. Next, we would shift our focus to law and case scenarios. You need to reside in Georgia and be local to Gwinnett, Hall, and Forsyth Counties unless you're comfortable traveling to these locations for in-person meetings.
